A derogatory synonym of sorts for Métis people. According to Murray Dobbin, the term was coined by a priest who, upon arriving at Red River during the nineteenth-century heyday of the Métis nation, described the Métis he saw as the “one-and-a-half men: half white, half Indian and half devil.”
