The Temporary Foreign Worker Program (TFWP) allows citizens of other countries to work in Canada for up to four years. Workers have little ability to switch employers and are thus vulnerable to exploitation. In December of 2017, there were approximately 6785 temporary foreign workers (TFWs) in Alberta, down from a high of 36,000 in 2013. These numbers do not include undocumented workers.
